PRODUCT

What can I put on my SayItSign?

Anything you can imagine.

Do I have to do anything to my car to use the SayItSign

Absolutely not, just use the existing license plate holes and screw in the SayItSign. There is no other attachment to the car needed.

Does the SayItSign fit on everycar?

Pretty much, but if the tag is way to the left or right at far edge of car it will not fit. All cars with the license tag in middle or offset a little bit to the left or right is a great fit. (Rav by Toyota and Jeep Wrangler with the tire on the back don't fit, and although some old cars have tag on side, it's rare.)

Does it hook up to my car's electrical system for lighting?

NO, the SayItSign is self-sufficient and operates solely on its own.

If I want multiple signs do I need to purchase multiple sign bases?

NO, once you buy the base, you can print as many signs as you want. Just purchase connectors for the back of the additional signs.

What kind of material is the sign made of?

It is an aluminum substrate that is 3/16 inch thick.

How long does it take to install?

Less than a minute.

How long will the SayItSign last?

It is made of durable aluminium that will give you years and years of use.

No, SayItSigns are made of durable aluminium. When properly installed in the No-Wind zone. SayItSigns handle all U.S. speed limits.

What if my license plate screws are in a bad shape?

Go to any local Auto Parts store and pick up new brackets and screws specific to your license plate.

Can I open the trunk or hatch with the SayItSign on?

Yes, just open and close carefully. Make sure to watch your head as you close the trunk because the SayItSign sticks out of few inches.

Do homeowners associations allow me to park with the SayItSign in their communities?

Some do, and some don't. Another option is backing up into the driveway with the SayItSign facing away from street, or you can simply take it off (which usually takes about 30 seconds) and store it in your car.

Do I have to worry about the speed when the SayItSign is on the vehicle?

When installed properly in the “no wind zone” area, and traveling the speed limit, there is nothing to worry about.

FILE PREPARATION (CUSTOM)

What is the best file type for printing?

The best type of file for large-format printing is a vector-based file. If you are uploading artwork such as a business logo or custom design, a vector file is recommended. This will generally be an original design file such as an .EPS, .AI, or even a .PDF saved out of the original design program. Vector files maintain quality at any size. If you are uploading an image or photo, we recommend locating the largest-size file with the highest-resolution you can find. You can check image resolution by right-clicking on the file name and selecting “Properties.” Under the “Details” tab look for resolution—we recommend at least 300 dpi.

Is the quality of my image or file good enough for printing?

When uploading an image or photo, remember that the higher the quality of the image, the better it is going to look when printed. We recommend a resolution of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) or 2000px by 2000px size for the final print size. Images that are less than 300 dpi may look blurry or pixelated. We review all files before production and will let you know via a low-resolution proof email if there are any issues. If your image was sourced from a website on the Internet, it will likely not be of a high-enough resolution, since the Internet displays images at 72 dpi. When searching for an image and trying to decide if it is high-resolution, zoom in on the file until it fills your screen. This will give you an idea of what the image will look like when enlarged for printing. Also, filter your search results by “Large images” to ensure that your file size will be sufficient for large-format printing.

What height should letters be to ensure my SayItSign is readable?

When choosing letter height, a good rule of thumb is every 1 inch of letter height equals a preferred distance of 10 feet of perfect readability. However, the text is technically still visible up to 3 times the preferred distance. Text design also affects readability. Thin, script fonts look beautiful but can be hard to read from a distance. Choose bold fonts with highly-contrasting colors to make the best impact.

How do I design a file for large signs and banners (i.e 4'x8')?

By using a vector-based file (which is scalable), you can create a smaller design that is easier to work with and can then be printed in a larger size. If your design program is crashing because your file is too large, we recommend reducing the file to ¼ or ½ of the final print size. Use 300 dpi to ensure quality, and flatten the file so it’s easier to upload. Save the file as a .PDF, which maintains the file’s settings but reduces its overall size.

How many colors can be used on my SayItSign?

SayItSign offers high-quality, full-color digital printing for one low price, so there is no additional cost for using multiple colors. Whether customizing one of our templates or uploading your own file, you can incorporate as many colors into the design as you would like. Keep in mind, however, that too many colors can look cluttered and busy, reducing the overall effectiveness of your signage.

What is your recommended image resolution?

We recommend that all images be at least 300 dpi. Submitting files with a lower resolution than 300 dpi can cause the image to appear pixelated and blurry when enlarged to print size. We review all files before production and will let you know via a low-resolution proof email if there are any issues. If you are uploading an image or photo, we recommend locating the largest-size file with the highest-resolution you can find. You can check image resolution by right-clicking on the file name and selecting “Properties.” Under the “Details” tab, look for resolution.

What text colors do you recommend for optimal advertising visibility?

When designing custom signage, it's important to consider how the color of your text will affect its readability from a distance. If your design has a background, it's always best to use as much color-contrast as possible. This means a light background and dark text, or a dark background and light text, so that your message "pops" out from the background. Always limit yourself to 2 or 3 different text colors when creating your design. Keep primary text in one color and supplementary text in another. Using too many colors looks cluttered, busy and confusing. If you are set on having a lot of colors, consider shades of the same color, which is less-distracting.

What are RGB, CMYK, and Pantone colors?

Most graphic software programs give you the choice to work in either the RGB or CMYK color mode. We print full-color pictures and images using the CMYK process. To ensure color accuracy, we ask that all submitted files be saved in CMYK. All submitted RGB files will be converted to CMYK before printing. Such a conversion will likely cause a color shift in your finished product and it is not covered by warranty. CMYK Color: CMYK (short for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key [black], and often referred to as process color or four color) is a subtractive color model used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself. Though it varies by print house, press operator, press manufacturer and press run, ink is typically applied in the order of the abbreviation. RGB Color: The RGB color model is an additive color model in which red, green, and blue light are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors. The name of the model comes from the initials of the three primary colors—red, green, and blue. Typical RGB input devices are computer monitors, color TVs, video cameras, image scanners, and digital cameras. Therefore, when you view your proof on a computer monitor, please be aware that the final print color will be slightly different since we print in CMYK format. Pantone Color: The Pantone Color Matching System is a standardized color reproduction system. Pantone colors are described by their allocated number (for example, 'PMS 130'). There is a special subset of Pantone colors that can be reproduced using CMYK. Those that are possible to simulate through the CMYK process are labeled as such within the company's guidelines. SayItSign does not print Pantone colors. All Pantone colors are converted to CMYK process by using the CMYK values embedded in your design file. Pantone colors can have different CMYK values in various applications and files so please check your CMYK values carefully if you are looking to have your sign printed in specific color. As a general rule of thumb, do not use Pantone colors. Convert all Pantones to CMYK to get the results you expect.

What is a vector file?

A vector is a mathematic representation of some geometric form. Vector files are scalable, which means that they will maintain quality no matter the size, which is why they are recommended for large-format printing. Programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Corel Draw are all natively vector-based applications that allow designers to create artwork where the resulting file is a collection of vectors. Some examples of vector-based file extensions are .AI, .CDR, .EPS, .PDF, etc. Please note that .CDR files must be saved as a .PDF before uploading.

Do you print height by width (HxW) or width by height (WxH)?

Always measures height by width (H x W) in inches. When you select a size on the website, height is always the first dimension, not width. Make sure it matches with your file size. If your proof appears sideways, please rotate your original file and re-upload it.
